Brendan and Laura have been involved in heritage and restoration projects extensively since the formation of the practice.
Prior to being involved in Hayward McMullan Brendan worked on various projects such as Lyme Hall and Plas Y Newydd for the National Trust, Clitheroe Castle visitor centre, Stockport Plaza, Bury Transport museum and various Georgian Villas dotted around Belgravia and Chelsea. Leicestershire and Rutland contain a rich tapestry of heritage assets. Hayward McMullan regularly work with listed buildings from tiny cottages that require refurbishment to large scale estates requiring much more long term strategic thinking.
Currently Hayward McMullan are the incumbent Architects to Quenby Hall in Leicestershire noted by Historic England as one of the finest Jacobean houses in the country. Currently the practice is involved in multiple projects on the estate ranging from the design and construction of a new formal East Terrace, refurbishment of Existing estate cottages and the design and construction of a traditional glass house to compliment a working kitchen garden.
Day to day the practice regularly deal with heritage projects weaving new design interventions sensitively into listed houses to help homeowners enjoy modern living within a listed building whilst retaining their character for generations to come.
We typically deal with Listed Building Consent Applications and Heritage Impact Assessments on a weekly basis and by virtue of our extensive knowledge of dealing with heritage assets we have a wide experience of period construction detailing and great relationships with specialist contractors.
