Gloucester Crescent

This project was for the refurbishment of an existing 1940’s property which was very run down and needed a new lease of life.

The clients were very specific in their requirements and wanted a large rear extension that would give them an open plan family area and large kitchen. The clients love to cook and entertain so this was the main focus of their brief. They also wanted the garden to feel like part of the house therefore, we incorporated large sliding doors into the design so that these can open right back and let in all the South light.

The clients were also keen to minimise any future heating bills as they intend to stay in the property for a number of years. We used the large south facing glazing to maximise solar gains to reduce on heating bills but also added timber shutters to allow them to block out the sun if it was too overbearing.

The construction has also been carefully researched in order to use the most cost effective and thermally efficient solution for the wall construction. The property also has additional insulation in the roof and a new super efficient boiler. The final outcome is that the property has a high EPC rating and has significantly reduced the heating and running costs of the property in order to be more eco friendly. The clients are looking to add solar panels in the future so that they can reduce their running costs further.
