White Gables, Burton Lazars

We were initially approached by this client with a view to designing a rear single storey extension: plans changed, and the brief grew to become a whole house refurbishment, exactly the sort of challenge we relish.

Our client wanted a large open plan living area to maximize views of the garden and provide space and flexibility to a large family. They were keen for a contemporary look but didn’t want render to match the existing house.

Happy to leave the planning application and building regulations to us, our client managed the project themselves, liaising on site with the builder on a daily basis.

We designed a brand new entrance to their home, including a new front door and porch area. Energy was conserved with new windows throughout and existing walls were insulated to add value to the property. Inside the home we made changes to room layouts to give better flow.

The main living area incorporated large bi folding doors, leading out on the garden with contemporary roof lights to bring light into the kitchen.

The existing utility was overclad and the existing glass roof was altered so that this area was integrated into the final design of the living space.

The client appreciated our expertise, asking us to come on site on an ad hoc basis to give advice on details and to respond to any queries the builder had.

This exciting and extensive project is due for completion in the first quarter of 2017.
