Willoughby Waterleys, Private House

We love a challenge and creating a modern design to lift a 200 year old farmhouse into the 21st century was it. This idiosyncratic house was a structural challenge with thin ancient timber floors and thick walls to deal with. The challenge with this house was to retain all of the many original features whilst implementing a design which allowed the house to sustain the lifestyle and living pattern of modern families for many years to come. This was achieved by adding a glazed link between old and new fabric to bring heat into the old building using solar gain whilst increasing the houses relationship to the garden which was non existent before. A new glazed gable extension was added to the house to provide a large bedroom with dressing room and en-suite at first floor with a large kitchen at ground floor.
