Ironside / Daventry

Ironside is a new dwelling currently designed to the criteria stated under National Planning Policy guidance paragraph 79.

The proposals involve the placement of a dwelling that bridges an existing sheep pasture and ironstone quarry to create a modern, sustainable family home on the outskirts of Daventry. Designed on a single level, the house is fully accessible. It enjoys views over a forest and ravine to the hills beyond on the western edge of the site, with pasture views to the south.

The dwelling fully utilises renewable and sustainable technologies such as mechanical vent and heat recovery, ground source heating, trombe walls and high levels of thermal mass. The façade comprises prefabricated steel and ironstone cassettes to maximise finish, reduce programme and lower the embodied carbon footprint.

Ironside is currently being reviewed by the OPUN Design Review panel prior to a planning application being undertaken in summer 2020. Ironside continues the practice’s preoccupation with designing exemplary bespoke homes rooted in their context on difficult sites.
